Mad Hatter Day

So accroding to www.holidayinsights.com, toady is Mad Hatter Day!  Seeing how it's the day before fall break,  I thought this was appropriate to talk about such a silly holiday!

The Mad Hatter is a fictional cartoon character depicted in Alice's Adventures in Wonderland. The Mad Hatter is always acting silly. So, on Mad Hatter Day, it is only fair and fitting to act a little silly yourself.
Despite being a silly day, the selection of the date was actually quite logical. The Mad Hatter wears a top hat. On the front of the hat is a slip of paper with "10/6" written on it. The paper is believed to be an order to make the hat, and that it costs ten shillings sixpence.
Grab yourself a top hat, and have a a very silly Mad Hatter's Day!
Did You Know? In the 8th Century, mercury was used in hat making in a process called "carroting". Mercury poisoning drove some hatters crazy (mad).

Origin of Mad Hatter Day:
Mad Hatter Day was the brainstorm of a group of computer people in Boulder, Co. It dates back to 1986.  Most likely a bit bored with bits and bytes, they got a little silly and created this quite special day. -www.holidayinsights.com

Everybody grab a top hat and celebrate the Mad Hatter today!

1000 Awesome Things

So my good friend Morgan (her last name has been hidden to protect her awesomeness) introduced me to a wonderful blog! It's called 1000 Awesome Things and every weekday the good folks at 1000 Awesome Things count down from 1000 to the most awesomest thing.

This one particular Awesome Thing is a personal favorite of mine!

Kids who dress themselves!

"It’s the little girl wearing a tutu on the downtown street. It’s the boy in the Superman outfit at McDonald’s. It’s big rainboots on sunny days, mom’s lipstick smeared across faces, and big bright mismatched costumes.
There’s just something so pure and innocent about little kids dressing themselves up for a day on the town. All  grown-up social norms and fashion pretenses just drift away in favor of laughing in the moment and living for the day.
AWESOME!" - 1000awesomethings.com

In honor of these awesome kids, here is a picture of my niece, Emma, dressed in her fabulous hula girl outfit.

5 Reasons I Hate Amusement Parks

So I was listening to some friends talk about amusement parks today.  They all were talking about really awesome parks that had amazing rides but I would like to talk about 5 reasons I hate amusement parks:

1.) It draws the rednecks out

There are always tons of rednecks that go to amusement parks.  I think that they skip the beach and go to amusement parks for vactions.  It is like swimming in a pool of mullets and beer bellies.  Oh, and let's not foget those awesome shirts that say witty phrases on them like "Your girlfriend thinks I'm hott" or something so smart like that.

2.) It's always hot.

Everyone wants to go in the summer and add that to the other thousands of people that are in the park, it ends up being a sweaty mess.

3.) I get motion sickness.

No matter how much Dramamine I dope up on, I always end up getting sick.  I think its a mix of the heat, greasy food, and motion.  It is not a pretty picture because I walk around green all day long.  All I really want to do is curl up in air conditioning and go to sleep.

4.) You always hear about someone who had died on a ride.
Now if I was the president of some big amusement park, you better believe I'd be paying a high price for witnesses to keep their mouths shuts about a death.  Apparantly, there guys don't or people spread some pretty good rumors.

5.) Last but not least, THE LINES!

Even if there is only 300 people on the park and 30 rides (for those who aren't so good at math that is 10 people per ride), there is always a line.  I hate waiting in line for an hour for a 45 second ride.  That my friends, is a rip off.

Fenway

So Andrew and I got a new puppy.  He is amazingly precious! His name is Fenway because he’s a Boston Terrier. He is a baby so he doesn’t sleep well alone so he’s been sleeping with me... big mistake.  He wakes up at 3 o’clock every morning and wants to play.  Now you can imagine that I’m not very chipper at 3am so last night I put him in his crate.  I had to sleep with a pillow over my head but we thankfully made it through the night! We have gotten over the peeing-on-the-floor hurtle, now we just have to get him through chewing on everything!

I am such a Gleek.

So I have a confession.....

I am a GLEEK! I absolutley love it.  I would pay them to let me be on the show. The beginning of the week for me is always very stressful so my one source of comfort is that I get to come home every Tuesday night and sing along with the kids of William McKinley High School.  Check out the preview for tonight's episode!

Hellos and goodbyes

So today I said goodbye to one o my best friends.  Usually he goes to school this time of year anyway, but he comes home some weekends and, even though I haven't visited him, Nashvegas is just a bit down the road but New York is really far away.  I think it's just hitting me that its time for all of us to grow up and now we have to work extra hard to keep up those relationships.

On a brighter note, I have met some pretty great people since I have started college.  The kind of friends that have really been there for me.  These are the kind of friends that support my coffee addictions, facebook stalk people with me, and I know that I can force to help me with my 500 projects that I have hands on. So thank you, dearly devoted friends, you have made college pretty awesome so far.
